Faculty Position Announcement
The Department of Anesthesiology of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Université de Sherbrooke seeks to extend the department’s expertise in pain research. The department invites applications to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
The Department has regrouped world class scientists in Pain Research. We are now seeking individuals with innovative experimental and/or translational pain research programs to complement the current themes of the Department. In particular, we encourage applications from individuals with expertise in the following fields: drug mechanisms, drug abuse, pain genetics (or other interests related to precision medicine), and neuronal circuitry. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an active, externally funded independent research program and to obtain salary support (scholarship) from national or provincial sources.
Candidates should have a PhD or MD/PhD degree, between 2 and 6 years of postdoctoral studies, an outstanding publication record in biomedical sciences and a competitive research program in the field of pain.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain an active research program, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in pharmacology, physiology as well as in the medical student curriculum, and participate in the training of graduate students (MSc, PhD, PDF). Knowledge of the French language, or commitment to learn the language in the short term, is mandatory. The candidate will also have to interact with anesthesiologists and algologists from the department of anesthesiology, thus bridging basic and clinical poles.
Members of the Pain group have their lab space in the Institute of Pharmacology as well as in the Centre de recherche du CHUS, both located at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Institution is equipped with the most recent technologies and was just awarded a 6.8M$ infrastructure grant to update its medicinal chemistry, biochemical, biophotonic, microscopy, mass spectrometry, and behavioral platforms. The Institute of Pharmacology provides access to cutting edge scientific equipment facilities and a strong interdisciplinary research environment with a major focus in neuroscience. The Centre de recherche du CHUS provides a unique environment for patient-oriented research, including a state-of-the-art imaging center and a pain laboratory for clinical research. The department of anesthesiology is positioned in the adjacent university hospital, between the minor and major operating rooms, and is linked to the Centre of Expertise in Chronic Pain, providing access to chronic pain patients.
Screening of applications will begin February 13, 2017. To apply, please send a curriculum vitae, plan of research interests (maximum two pages), copies of the three most significant publications, and contact information for three referees to Louis Gendron.
